Happy Valentine’s Day ya’ll!!!
Today I shall re-purpose a post and piece that I created years ago. I think it' still stands the test of time :)
Feb’ 2017
For the past few weeks I’ve been going about my day and this thought has been gently poking me – “Let’s get some mixed media done, let’s get some mixed media done!” (Mixed media is a form of art where you can use a range of different mediums like crayon, water-color, ink, clay, gesso, decoupage, acrylics etc all at the same time. Now that’s a treat!)
I ignored the thought. Mixed media! (insert OMG expression here) I don’t have time! I DON’T HAVE TIME! I don’t have time right now, silly thought. Too much to do already.” (Mixed media projects usually take a long time.)
But the thought just wouldn’t leave me alone. No matter what I did, it gently kept nudging me every single time I tried to focus on something else….. The gesso and the decoupage on my shelves were literally calling out to me. Well not literally, but you know what I mean.
Alas! My persistent and not-so-subtle thoughts won (and boy, am I glad)!
I was beyond excited once I got started and the creative part of my brain went a million miles an hour. My sleep vanished and my mind was dominated with the vision for this piece.
Hope you enjoy seeing the progress of this cute beauty (or beast, if you’re not a fan!). I have a lot of images that will give you a great insight into how this piece took shape.
Here’s all the participants (most of them) of this masterpiece.

Here were a few of my KEY TAKEAWAYS when I was done:
1) It took me only 1/5th the amount of time that I was hoping it would take (thank God for heat guns!).
2) Since I was on a tight schedule I worked a lot more efficiently (law of deadlines – funny how that works out).
3) I also noticed interestingly enough, how we use the ‘I don’t have time’ excuse a lot to procrastinate.
Now I would love to hear from you – What art/craft project was it, that you just couldn’t get off your mind and you eventually just gave in and made it? And what excuse was your brain trying to conjure up to not let you do it?
Owl wait for your comments below!
