#OadlProject365 - Day 59 - February 2023 Recap

Woot woot woot. I survived 59/365 days of the #OadlProject365 challenge! (Spartan races suddenly feel easier in my head)

59/365 = 16.16% i.e. 1/6th of the way there. Not bad! 1 more month to get through Q1, although I’ve realized that usually Jans and Febs breeze by, but Marches’ feel unnecessarily long. And I don’t know why I’m acting like a public company, but sure feels great!

For all those who are new here #OadlProject365 is my attempt to draw/sketch/paint/do art for at least 5 minutes everyday for 365 days. I posted about it in detail on day 1.

(Btw Oadl is an acronym for ‘Only A Decade Late’ which is my pseudonym in the www and the general story of my life!)

Before I get into the learnings from Feb here’s a snippet of what I created in these whopping 28 days.

February 2023 Recap

February 2023 Accomplishments and Status Updates:

• Drawing every single day even if it only for 5 minutes - Did more than 5min, although it is becoming challenging to just draw for 5 min only

• Building a good habit/muscle - Since it’s a commitment of 5 minutes everyday, I LITERALLY can make no excuse - Check

• Getting over perfectionism - Not quite to be honest, else I would just draw for 5 min and post end result. WIP

• Getting comfortable sharing my work on a public platform - Check. Once I open up substack I realize I always have something to say and instantly title my artwork

• Having fun WITHOUT a burnout (have failed in the past with consistent blogging so want to keep this project easy and achievable) - Meh…WIP I’d say. I do feel mini burnouts and want to give up on a almost daily basis

• Being able to see a trail of my work on day 365 to visualize my journey - YES!!! This is the coolest part out of everything!

• Take a little extra time to learn Procreate and digital drawing - FAIL. Did not have time to do this at all. Still winging it with #procreate

• Draw every single day (atleast for 5 min), and post on substack, but probably not send a notification to the entire email list - Check, although will be updating this strategy for March. The stats showed that if I did not send an email notification, then people did not view the post and it got no traction. For now, I think it’s best for the newsletter - that I post often v/s stressing about unsubs.

• Daily posts will probably be more incomplete and WIP shots v/s finished items like in Jan - Not quite. I posted mostly finished work everyday

• Send an update once a week with the accomplishments of the week - Check

Tentative Gameplan for March 2023:

• Take the time to begin learning Procreate and digital drawing. Fingers crossed

• Send an email update every time I post on Substack which could mean EVERYDAY too. Please don’t unsubscribe! I promise my newsletter will be worth your time :)

• Begin working on some of the book illustration projects

• Embrace posting WIP shots v/s finished items even if it’s not perfect
